Well after a week off (Little Miss 8 was happy about that) - we are back on track. Our words this week are: please, bare, pound, done, tearful, beat, don't, hurt, pretty, princess, become, dozen, price, thirst and sixteen.
Today we talked about literature terms such as theme and main ideas and identified both themes and main ideas from popular novels.
And we started a geography unit looking at the different continents and the oceans - she was surprised to learn that she had lived on four continents. We covered such terms as equator, hemisphere and talked about globes, maps and atlases and the differences between them all.
After going over our spelling words, we continued on with our discussion of theme and main ideas and then we discussed words like author, playwright, illustrator, title, act, scene, dialogue and style.
Then we looked at cause and effect and how to identify them.
Today was a math day - with a bit of science thrown in to mix it up.
First we did a number of multiplication problems and then started our journey into division. I don't think it was as hard as she had thought it was going to be but math seems to be a difficult subject for her to deal with even though she is very good at it.
In science we talked about heat and light and discussed objects which create both heat and light.
Afterwards we decided to go and do a stationery shop to help add some more enthusiasm into our daily schedule - she picked out a nice variety of books (pictured below) and some new pens, pencils and textas to go with them.
We also printed off a couple of copy books we had stored on the computer so she could start work on improving her handwriting.
And so she could make use of her lovely new stationery, we decided to do an art project entitled Beautiful Numbers - http://www.kinderart.com/drawing/numbers.shtml - to finish off the school day.
Today we started our unit on Australia and read the book "Are We There Yet" so she could familiarise herself with the size and shape of Australia which she thoroughly enjoyed.
We continued on with learning about division and talked about the solar system and nearby planets.
Little Miss 8 did a great job this week scoring 15/15 on her spelling and really getting to grips with her study. We looked at the order of the planets, drew them in our book and she learnt the rhyme "My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Up Noodles" to help her remember them.
We did some more division and continued on with our Australian theme. We looked at koalas and learnt a few facts about them, and drew the flag and the Australian and ACT floral emblems. We started work in our copybook to help improve her handwriting - Australian themed - Blinky Bill! :)
