Let the homeschooling begin!
I have set the schedules for Time4Learning and have entered the spelling list into Spelling City - we will do 10 words a week and take it from there. We also have a little dictionary in which she can write words that she has trouble with.
Today we started with some basic addition and subtraction. She understands the concept but needs to improve the handwriting and column work so she doesn't get confused.
I purchased the book My Sister Sally - Quite the Character from Amazon and we will do some reading from it daily. I will also start Little Miss 8 journalling tomorrow so she can focus on her writing and spelling.
We commenced the social studies element on Vikings and Little Miss 8 really enjoyed herself. We learnt about Vikings and their lifestyle and she did some drawings in her social studies book. We found a fun online game courtesy of the BBC - http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/interactive/games/viking_quest/index_embed.shtml - in which she learnt about the trials and tribulations the vikings had to face.
We commenced this week's spelling words:
about, chest, grow, only, stopped, actor, chili, guild, own, strain
and played around with them doing various word games.
She also started reading My Sister Sally and started writing in her journal.
We did a bit more on the Viking theme and Little Miss 8 enjoyed colouring in some clothing that the Viking women and children wore.
We studied synonyms and also briefly talked about antonyms which we will continue next week. Little Miss 8 also worked on a few worksheets which she really enjoyed.
Today we concentrated on Mathematics and studied expanded forms of numbers. We also did a couple of worksheets to help reinforce the work.
We did some basic science investigation theory and talked about working in pairs and the advantages and disadvantages. Little Miss 8 also did her spelling test and scored 7/10.
