As we have just moved into a new apartment we weren't connected to the internet to start studies on the Monday so we decided to take an extra day off school to settle into our new surroundings and play catch up during the week. We have been busy watching some Disney movies including Alice In Wonderland and The Hunchback Of Notre Dame which have both had a few repeat viewings since the weekend.
Today we learnt about homophones and looked at our new spelling words for the week: churn, twelve, space, almost, coil, halfway, pair, studies, alone, could, hang, pest, study. We also started the topic of Inuits for our social studies theme.
Today we introduced Art as a subject and talked about collages and making collages as a form of art. We went over the spelling words. Emilia read some of her online reader (Ivy and Bean) and we covered Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast as well as asking a variety of questions for comprehension purposes. We also watched some YouTube videos on Inuits and their lifestyle bringing the subject to life.
Today we covered graphs and had fun graphing coloured candy and also discussed more on using reference materials and where to research topics in case the need arose. Little Miss 8 went over her spelling words and we talked more about Art covering primary and secondary colours. We also discussed the artwork of Georgia O'Keeffe and Pablo Picasso and Little Miss 8 experimented with some of the styles they used. We watched an introductory video on Inuits at BrainPop and started reading The Eskimo Twins by Lucy Fitch Perkins. She also started reading Diary Of An Almost Cool Girl as part of her daily reading activity.
We finished up the week on addition - math is the least favourite subject of Little Miss 8 but we managed to get through it. She did her spelling test and scored 10/13. She wanted to learn more about art so we read up on Ezra Jack Keats and looked at some sculpture. She also wanted to do some work on music so we decided to do some learning on woodwind instruments to mix it up a bit. A fun end to the week!
