We had booked our dates for travel to Machu Picchu prior to our arrival in Peru and fortunately Cusco is a wonderful stepping stone to many other interesting destinations. With the help of a very friendly travel guide we were able to plan out an itinerary to take in the first 3 weeks of our stay.
The Festival of the Virgin Del Carmen falls on the 15th July and we are fortunate to be in Peru during the festivities. While most of the celebrations occur in Paucartambo, we decided to visit Pisac to see the smaller celebrations giving us a day trip rather than a full overnight stay.
In Cusco itself there is a small zoo and located just 30 minutes outside Cusco is another zoo so we knew these would be fun trips to do with the kids.
These trips will make up the excursions we have planned this week while we still find our feet and work our way around the city. And failing that we can always head back to the park as we know that makes for a nice break for the kids.
