Last week we discovered a cupcake store in Cusco on Maruri Street called Catalina Menta and I promised Little Miss 8 we could go back sometime and sample their cakes. We visited last week but due to Peru's Independence Day it was closed so today we thought we would try our luck again.
We arrived at about 2.45pm and were informed that she would open around 3.00pm. Then at around 3.45pm, a neighbouring store phoned the owner and informed us that she would not actually be opening until around 4.30pm. Apparently there are no set hours, just as and when the owner feels like it. And I figured as we had already waited 45 minutes, what was another 45 minutes.
So we took a walk to Starbucks so I could grab a coffee and back we went to wait for the store to open. At around 4.30pm, another neighbouring store owner informed us that she would be there in about 15 minutes and would be mind waiting a bit longer - well why not - we had nothing else to do.
So at about 4.45pm (2 hours after we arrived) the lady finally arrived and we got to sample our cakes. Luckily for us the cakes were delicious (and cheap at only 3 sols, just over $1) so we would highly recommend them to anyone although you are probably best visiting in the morning seeing as she picks and chooses her times to open in the afternoon.
And yes we will definitely be going back as and when the need arises.
